Self-Portrait

Unfolded Being (Self-Portrait) is one of the most layered and introspective pieces I’ve completed, part of the first series of white acrylic compositions I made on thick black paper. I approached this work slowly, allowing the forms to emerge through a meditative, unhurried process without any predefined structure. Rather than attempting representation in any conventional sense, I aimed to trace an internal condition — an unfolding of presence — through rhythm, repetition, and intuitive line. The strands and structures that appear here were not calculated in advance, but surfaced organically, like topographies of thought or emotional memory. Though the title suggests a portrait, there is no face, no likeness to anchor the viewer. Instead, the piece becomes a kind of ontological map — a record of being in motion, extending and uncontained. I’ve always resisted symbolic closure in my visual work, and this composition stays true to that ethic. It’s open to multiple orientations, and I invite viewers to rotate and read it freely. The stark white on black emphasizes the act of drawing itself — pure contrast, no color — heightening attention to absence, structure, and presence. In making this, I tried to balance precision with surrender, letting the work grow from within until it reached what felt like a coherent vibration. It reflects a moment of alignment with the act of becoming.
