Shetland Folk Festival: A ‘Final Fling’ Fiddle Session

Shetland Folk Festival: A ‘Final Fling’ Fiddle Session

Originally published on September 7th 2016 on YouTube for the first time, this video shows a round of tunes played at the ‘Final Fling’ night, on the last day of the Shetland Folk Festival. The ‘Final Fling’ is a session that is closed to the public and meant to celebrate staff, volunteers and artistes. This includes an impromptu dancing improvisation by a local music enthusiast. Note how Canadian fiddler, tap dancer and singer April Verch picks up the tunes by ear as Bryan Gear brings them out without getting on the way.

I made many other videos throughout this edition of the Shetland Folk Festival, and will make them available as part of episodes from the Shetland Spree documentary.
