Tonight we analyze a selection of alleged communications with the spirits of deceased scientists that took place in the 19th century and have been documented in the work of Allan Kardec. We will focus on the tension between the Galileo-Copernicus-Newton models of the world that Kardec seems to adopt and the puzzling answers that the spirits provided. This case will set up the scenario for a discussion of the present challenges to the taken for granted, government-promoted and socially acceptable cosmology – the double-think-infused, spinning ball, space crack, science fiction cosmology that is still somehow so popular now.
