Tushkar and Marie Pottinger's Reel

(Ronnie Cooper)

This arrangement brings together two traditional Shetland melodies composed by Ronnie Cooper, reinterpreted in a dialogue with Brazilian rhythms and improvisational textures. It was conceived and recorded after I relocated to the Netherlands, as part of a continued reflection on my ethnographic fieldwork in Shetland (2012–2013).

The video draws from my fieldwork archive—images, scenes, and moments that shaped my understanding of music and community life in the islands. Revisiting this material years later, I began to explore how sound itself might serve as a bridge between memory and meaning.

The tunes were selected from Ronnie Cooper’s published collection, purchased at High Level Music in Lerwick.
